Other Aliases:

I blog, I garden, I travel, and I take a lot of pictures of my cats. Sometimes I write but really I’m just trying to make the most out of each and every day.

Her work has appeared in Kallisto Gaia Press Ocotillo Review, The Decadent Review, GRIFFEL, Plainsongs, Gyroscope Review, The Journal of Compressed Creative Arts by Matter Press, and elsewhere, and her poem “Double American Sonnet for Terrance Hayes” won first prize in the Nebraska Poetry Society contest in 2022. Her first book, Unsuspecting Cinderella, is available from Finishing Line Press and on Amazon.

Shyla is Co-founder and Editor of The Good Life Review and currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband, children, and four cats. She spends most days tending to a healthy household and is currently cultivating the largest golden pothos in captivity.

Why I Write

Writing, for me, is a journey of discovery. I seek knowledge, camaraderie, and inspiration and am driven by a search for purpose and a need to engage in self-reflection. For most of my life writing has been a primary means to work through what I am thinking and feeling and find peace with difficult circumstances.

Mission and Vision

I want to be an active participant in the community and my hope is that by doing so I will be able to effect positive change in the world around me. I believe that everyone who has an experience to share should have the opportunity to do so. I also feel that connecting readers and writers is an important step in engaging people in conversations that might not otherwise occur and that those human connections are incredibly valuable. If I can contribute in some way or help promote other people, I know I will have done something worthwhile.
