About

I mom, I garden, I curate a literary magazine, and I take a lot of pictures of flowers, sunsets, and my cats. Sometimes I write, but truly, I’m just trying to make the most out of each and every day. ❀

Shyla Ann Shehan is an analytical Virgo who was born in Iowa and has spent the majority of her life in the Midwest. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Nebraska, where she refined her poetry skills and discovered that the writing life has more to offer than just a way to cope with the chaos of the Universe.

She’s the author of a full-length poetry collection, Mining the Gap (WSC Press, 2025), and a chapbook, Unsuspecting Cinderella (Finishing Line Press, 2022). Other work appears in The Pinch, Summerset Review, Moon City Review, Drunk Monkeys, Anti-Heroin Chic, Door is a Jar Magazine, Nelle, Write or Die Magazine, and elsewhere. She has received an Academy of American Poets Prize, a Pushcart nomination, a Best of the Net Nomination, and first place in the Nebraska Poetry Society’s Poetry Open.

Shyla is co-founder and EIC of The Good Life Review and also reads poetry for Magpie Zine. From the smorgasbord of life, she selected motherhood (of humans and cats), bike rides, board games, road trips, and woolgathering. She currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska. ❀

I believe in the transformative power of art. Through contemplation, expression, and human connection, we have the power to better understand ourselves and the world around us, and find ways to cope, heal, and grow. Writing and the freedom to explore are a wondrous means through which these can be achieved.
